Are you getting enough protein? Protein is the body’s building blocks.

For many years the daily recommended amount of protein was 8 grams per kilo of body weight (a 75kg person would need 60grams of protein daily). However, recent studies have found that the daily requirement to help build and maintain muscle is actually quite a bit higher.

One such study conducted with active exercising adults on a high protein diet showed that they lost fat at a much faster rate than those on a low protein diet. Although they took in more calories, those calories were used to build muscle and increase metabolism. Another study over an 8 week period, focused on female athletes training mostly with resistance or weight training, also showed an increased loss in fat over those with a lower protein intake. Athletes took in twice the daily recommended amount and saw substantial increase in muscle mass.

So for those of you that are putting in the hard work in the gym, try to focus on adding a little more protein to your food intake and you will see the results.
